Used Industrial Condensers — What We Carry

SIGMA Process Equipment maintains a stock of used industrial condensers covering the full range of vapour-condensing applications encountered in chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, and food processing plants. Unlike automotive AC condensers or domestic tumble dryer condensers, the equipment on this page is industrial-scale process equipment designed for continuous plant operation at elevated pressures and temperatures.

Current stock includes units from plant decommissioning and process upgrades. A used condenser from decommissioned plant typically represents 50–70% savings over new, with full condition documentation. Contact us with your duty conditions for current availability.

Surface Condensers (Steam Condensers)

Industrial surface condensers condense steam or process vapour on the shell side while cooling water passes through the tubes. Applications include power plant steam condensers, distillation column overhead condensers, and process vapour recovery. Shell sizes range from small utility condensers to large-diameter multi-pass units. Materials: carbon steel shell with copper-alloy, SS 316L, or titanium tubes depending on cooling-water corrosivity.

Process Condensers for Chemical and Pharmaceutical Duty

A used condenser for sale designated for process duty will typically have SS 316L shell and tube construction, with vent connections for non-condensable gas removal and a liquid-sealed condensate drain. Process condensers handle organic vapours — solvent recovery, distillation overhead condensing, reaction vent condensing — where carbon steel and copper alloys are unsuitable. We carry units in SS 304, SS 316L, and Hastelloy C-276 for corrosive vapour streams.

Condenser Water Heat Recovery

Condenser water heat recovery units capture latent heat from condensing steam or vapour and transfer it to a process water stream, reducing overall energy consumption. These units are well-suited to facilities with both a vapour condensing requirement and a process water heating load. Specify both duties — the condensing side and the heat recovery side — in your RFQ.

Vent Condensers and Reflux Condensers

Vent condensers handle low-flow vapour streams from storage tanks, process vessels, and reactor headspaces. Reflux condensers return partially condensed vapour to a distillation column. Both types are compact relative to full surface condensers and are typically found in SS 316L or glass-lined construction. Contact us with your vapour load, inlet temperature, and required condensate recovery rate.

Industrial Condenser Applications

The condenser used across industrial settings covers a wide range of sectors — none of which overlap with automotive or domestic HVAC applications. Our stock is sourced exclusively from chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, and power generation decommissioned or surplus plant:

  • Chemical plants — overhead condensers on distillation columns; vapour recovery in reaction systems.
  • Pharmaceutical manufacturing — solvent recovery condensers, sterile process condensers in SS 316L.
  • Food and beverage — condenser duty in evaporation systems; steam condensers for utility supply.
  • Power generation — large surface condensers for steam turbine exhaust condensing.
  • Petrochemical — reflux condensers on fractionation columns; product condensers on vapour streams.

What to Specify in Your RFQ

  • Vapour type and flow rate — steam, organic solvent, or mixed vapour; mass flow or volumetric flow at operating conditions.
  • Inlet vapour temperature and pressure — dew point and operating pressure on the condensing side.
  • Cooling medium — cooling water supply temperature and allowable temperature rise, or ambient air temperature for air-cooled units.
  • Material requirements — SS 316L for most chemical duty; titanium for chloride-bearing cooling water; Hastelloy for aggressive vapour streams.
  • Design code — ASME Section VIII, PED, or GB 150 if applicable.
