Used Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers — What We Carry
SIGMA Process Equipment stocks a broad range of used shell and tube heat exchangers — the most versatile and pressure-rated heat transfer equipment in process industry use. Available duties include steam heating, liquid-liquid heat recovery, oil cooling, gas cooling, and condensing service. Submit an RFQ with your operating conditions and we will return matched units within 24 hours.
U-Tube Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers
The u tube shell and tube heat exchanger is the most widely stocked configuration. The U-bend design allows the tube bundle to expand and contract freely, making it well-suited to large temperature differentials between shell and tube sides. Bundle withdrawal for cleaning is straightforward, and tube-side inspection is possible after bundle removal. Materials in stock include SS 316L tubes with carbon steel or SS shells.
Fixed Tubesheet and Floating-Head Units
Fixed tubesheet used shell and tube heat exchangers for sale are the simplest and most cost-effective configuration for non-fouling services. Floating-head units are available where thermal expansion is severe or frequent tube-bundle cleaning is required. Both are covered under TEMA B and TEMA R class depending on service duty.
Steam to Water Heat Exchangers
A shell and tube steam to water heat exchanger — steam on the shell side condensing while heating water in the tubes — is one of the most common process heating arrangements. We regularly carry steam to water heat exchangers in a range of capacities. Specify steam pressure, hot water temperature, and flow rate in your RFQ.
Oil Cooling and Waste Oil Heat Exchangers
Shell and tube units for heat exchanger for oil cooling duty are well-represented in our stock. These include oil to water heat exchangers for lube oil and hydraulic oil temperature control, and waste oil heat exchangers for heat recovery from used industrial oils. SS 316L is the standard material for oil-water service.
Sea Water and Industrial Water-to-Air Heat Exchangers
Sea water heat exchangers require corrosion-resistant tube materials — titanium is the standard choice for seawater-cooled shell-and-tube units. We carry titanium-tubed units for coastal or marine plant applications. Industrial water to air heat exchangers (finned-tube type) are available in carbon steel and aluminium for process air cooling duties.
SiC Heat Exchangers
SiC heat exchangers (silicon carbide tube bundles) are specified for highly corrosive duties where SS 316L and Hastelloy are inadequate — concentrated acids, aggressive solvents, and high-purity chemical manufacturing. Used SiC-tubed shell-and-tube units are occasionally available; specify in your RFQ.
Nitrogen and Low-Temperature Heat Exchangers
Nitrogen heat exchangers for gas heating or cooling duty, and low temperature heat exchangers for cryogenic or sub-ambient services, are available on request. Material selection and design pressure are critical for these applications — include full operating conditions in your enquiry.
Other Heat Exchanger Types We Source
Beyond shell-and-tube, buyers sometimes enquire about coiled heat exchangers (helical coil bundles immersed in a shell, suited to small heat loads and jacketed tank heating) and plate fin heat exchangers (brazed aluminium or stainless fin-and-plate constructions used in gas processing and cryogenic separations). Both are available on request — specify your duty and we will advise on the most suitable configuration in stock or through our sourcing network.
Tube Heat Exchanger Design — What to Specify
- Shell-side and tube-side fluids — identify which fluid goes where based on pressure, corrosiveness, and fouling tendency.
- Duty — heat load (kW or kcal/h), flow rates (m³/h), and in/out temperatures for both sides.
- Design pressure and temperature — confirm MAWP and design temperature for both sides.
- TEMA class — R (severe process duty), B (general process), or C (reduced standards). Specify if ASME or PED stamp is required.
- Industrial heat exchanger types — if a plate unit better fits the duty, see our used plate heat exchangers.
